Japanese Woodblock Prints:
The Art of Collaboration

Japanese Woodblock Prints was a 3,000 sq ft exhibition designed over the course of my summer internship at the Walters Art Museum and opening in the Fall of 2018. This show explores the collaborative effort involved in creating these beautiful works, usually accredited to only one person.

By highlighting the colors, details and textures in certain pieces in the exhibit, we focus the visitors attention to the intricacies of the printing process. The design was minimalist but it contained small surprises to engage the viewer as they walked through the gallery.

Working in collaboration with the Education Department, we developed areas to engage the visitors' senses, in particular touch, as the woodblock printing process is very physical.
